Frequently Asked Questions
During your visit, you will first meet the dental hygienist who will take x-rays, photos, and measurements. This information allows our dentists to make an accurate diagnose and provide a complete examination.
A dental cleaning performed by a dental hygienist allows removing plaque and tartar deposits on the teeth and above the gum line to prevent cavities. Professional cleaning includes removing plaque and calculus with specialized instruments, polishing the teeth, applying fluor and neutralizing bacteria in your mouth with ultrasound.
The majority of dental hygienists recommend professional cleaning at least once or twice a year. More frequent cleanings may be necessary during the treatment of other dental problems.
A cavity develops when a tooth decays. These small holes that form on the surface of the teeth are caused by the production of acidity due to the mixture of bacteria and sugar contained in the food that we consume.
Often tooth decay does not hurt until it reaches an advanced stage. Treatment is done by a composite restoration, also known as a “white filling”, which is simply the application of a sealant material that has the same color of the tooth.
Regular, thorough tooth brushing goes a long way towards preventing cavities and gum disease. It removes the bacteria that cause cavities, and the plaque that leads to gum disease.
Ideally, teeth should be brushed after every meal, as bacteria begin to attack teeth within minutes of eating. However, you should brush your teeth at least once a day, and always before going to bed.
It's not complicated, but there is a right way to brush:
Step 1
Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to your teeth, placing the bristles where your teeth and gums meet. Then, in a circular motion, gently massage from top to bottom. Do not rub. Gum recession is often the result of years of brushing too hard.
Step 2
Clean each side of each tooth. The chewing side, the cheek side and the tongue side.
Step 3
Take it easy and don't rush. A good brushing should take 2 to 3 minutes. Try to time yourself.
Step 4
Change the way you brush your teeth. Most people always brush their teeth the same way. This means they always miss the same spots. Try changing your routine.
Stage 5
Use a toothbrush with soft, rounded bristles. A good brush cleans better. Choose a brush size and shape that will allow you to reach the back teeth. There are many different kinds of toothbrushes, so ask your dentist to suggest the one that's best for you. The CDA recommends changing your toothbrush every 3 month.
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth - the four permanent adult teeth located in the upper and lower back corners of the mouth.
Extraction takes place after the dentist has taken x-rays that show that the growth or position of the wisdom teeth may be problematic. Wisdom teeth extraction requires the dentist to follow a rigorous protocol.
We provide the expertise and technology for an effective procedure with minimal side effects for the patient.
